I am a terra cotta pot lover. It is a real sickness, but I just love them darn so much. Know what else I love? A unique flower pot. Something interesting that’ll hold flowers. Flowers wanted, dead or alive, in all the random containers. Keeping flowers alive always starts out really good in the spring and early summer, but by the time the summer truly rolls around by mid-July, I tend to ignore them somewhat because… it’s hot. And gross. Melty outside, where nothing survives.

My porch and deck, where good intentions go to die.  Much like the crisper drawer of veggies.

Over the last few years, I have thinned the herd of unique flower pots, and picked my favorites. Hopes are still high for these containers. There are a handful of fun-sized terra-cotta pots on the back deck in full sun (which are great because they don’t dry out too fast from my watering too slow), and out on the front porch is where a lot of my picked and salvaged containers make their appearances.

Because the front porch has some full sun on the stairs, and shade by the door under the porch, the only 2 baskets I really need to tend to daily are the egg baskets with the coconut liners out on the steps in the blazing sun. I let my kids water the planters out there, because they have tiny watering cans, and love to do it, those little groundskeepers.

I love these unique flower pot ideas, and I may try to find some galvanized buckets for my hanging ferns. You know me, I love some galvanized metal! Did you know you can antique your own metal – we did our Christmas tree bucket last year, and I’m getting the itch to do it to a ton of other containers.

Keep those flowers alive, you can do it!

I hope at least until July.
