10 Minute 4th of July Decor With Ribbon

I love when the highlight of my day as a stay-at-home-mom, is going to Hobby Lobby with all 3 kids right before nap time. I am guaranteed to either make it out with my patience and sanity fully in tact by the sheer promise of a bag of chocolate candies at the register, or I’m guaranteed to buy myself the candies as a reward for not hiding in the corner while the kids dismantle whatever section we’re in. It’s a balance thing.

I knew in the back of my mind last week, that the 4th of July was approaching, and we had minimal patriotic decor out on the porch, which is pretty odd for this patriot-filled household. This is where those Hobby Lobby bribery candies come in… when you’re needing to make something quick, adorable, and packed with Americana flavor, pack the kids up, promise candy, and pray.

The kiddos actually chose the chambray and red burlap ribbons, and the white lace was my vetoing their pleas for glittery ribbon. We have a ladder on our porch we picked up at a local Amish hand crafted shop, that is usually naked.

Until now.

This bunting literally took my 6yr old 10 minutes to make. It took me 45 minutes to photograph the project, so this is something you should definitely go get supplies for, candies or no candies.

MAKE THE 4TH OF JULY DECOR MAGIC HAPPEN

Here’s a cute video slideshow I figured out how to make (so fancy!), wth a cameo photobomb from the maker…

Easiest ever, right? We opted to do red, white, blue pattern, but you can literally do whatever you want. I almost wanted to tie the ribbons to look like a flag, but I realized we grabbed all mismatched lengths of ribbon… after we got home.

4 steps for the 4th of July decor diy project
  • Cut the ribbon twice the length you’d like the ribbons to hang
  • Fold it in half to make a loop
  • Loop it over the rung
  • Pull ends through tightly

Loop ribbon over the rung, with the loop going toward the back…

And pull the ends tightly through the loop.

Repeat your pattern until it’s filled up to your liking.

If you have no ladder, you can do this on string and use it to drape across whatever you like.

That Hobby Lobby trip ended with the kids eating candy happily, me on budget, and sanity in tact.

Praise be!

  1. Oh! This is so adorable. I have a ladder in my sunroom that desperately needs some color love! This is perfect! The trouble is that I’m no longer a stay-at-home mom and don’t have three kids, so my trip to Hobby Lobby won’t be as exciting as yours. But I do hope that my bunting turns out as cute as yours! I’ll try to remember to send you a pic. Thanks for the inspiration. Susie from The Chelsea Project

  2. So adorable, and the bunting is cute too. Ah, your sweet daughter 🙂 Seriously though, this is the cutest project and you could really mix it up with the ribbons or materials. So many options, and at only 10 minute to make even procrastinators like me can be ready for the 4th.

    Happy Independence Day!
